Simply stated: no mix tape you put together for your loved one should go without this song!

I was struck by the beautiful arrangement, vocals and lyrics of this song ever since hearing it for the first time on one of DJ River’s Ambient/Chillout mixes. I looked up the band, called Bliss, and sure enough there was more great stuff where this one came from.

The musical world of Bliss is deeply rooted in a blend of western, African and classical musical influences representing the vast musical backgrounds of all four members respectively. It also showcases an undercurrent of apparent melancholy with a warmth that is otherwise hard to describe in words.

Kissing is a song from their latest album, Quiet Letters. I really highly recommend this album, and all of Bliss’s music in general. It’s hard to explain, but listening to them while doing anything can magically make you feel better and more at ease. It’s a cross between ambient and chillout. If you’re a fan of Secret Garden, then Bliss is worth discovering!

Discovering this band called Secret Garden was one of the things I got in return for signing up and using Last.fm online music discovery service. I think I was listening to some tune when I headed over to Last.fm and browsed similar artists as recommended by other people. Secret Garden came first. I never heard of the name, which is odd since they’ve been in business since 1995 and have released numerous albums. They play mostly new instrumental music although the song I’m sharing today has a more “popish” style to it.
